The Journey begins

When I was growing up in the West Texas Panhandle, we regularly drove past a sign on a main thoroughfare that read "Get US Out! The Godless U.N." To a young child, that seemed like it must be really bad.

In school, I learned the history of the U.N. and how it was formed after WWII to bring countries together and work to work toward peace.  "What's so Godless about that?", I thought.  Link for official explanation

Now I get to learn for myself!  I embark on March 3 to New York City for two weeks as a commissioner to the annual Commission on the Status of Women.  I will be there under the auspices of the Presbyterian Women, who have a seat around the table.  This year's focus is on Technology. I will attend classes on a wide variety of topics ranging from girls' access to technology for education, opportunities for rural women in the use of technology, using technology to share art, prevention of violence toward women and girls, how media exploits and many more.  I will have the opportunity to hear from women around the world sharing their successes and their needs. I will get to join an ecumenical worship every morning with women from around the world to center myself for the day. Who knows what else awaits, but I'm ready!

My mind is already exploding with information.  This blog will help me to record my experiences as I go.
Check back with this (hopefully daily)  to read first hand the sights, sounds, highs and lows of this journey.  Thank you to all who helped to make this possible.  I will try to do it justice.

Peace, my friends.
Carolyn
